Hello. Recently I've bought myself the Prodigy HD2 sound card. The problem I have is movie playback when DTS or AC3 5.1 sound is passing the SPDIF. Sound is playing smoothly with no glitches all the time but the video sometimes stops for about half to one second and then goes faster to synchronize with still properly played sound. Note that problem is only with 5.1 sources, passing DD2.0 or PCM is fine. It also looks like DTS is more problematic than AC3. It does not matter what video source and software I'm using, it happens on PowerDVD playing DVDs as well as BSPlayer or Media Player Classic with K-Lite codecs playing MKV-s. I've tried to solve the problem by changing latency option and other configuration options too with no effect. The only observation is that reducing latency value makes problem more often, increasing to 1024 makes it a bit less. I also tried to set default sound device to QVE which adds some glitches to the sound and does not solve anything. I thought this may be some drivers/codecs problem so I put in my backup HDD, disabled onboard sound device and installed fresh windows and powerdvd and it did not change anything. I also tried the old PowerDVD 5.0 with the same effect. Changing PCI slot is not an option since mainboard has only two PCIs and second one is blocked by graphics card's radiator but I do not believe that it would change anything.
Swithing on the onboard sound and playing back movies thru its SPDIF is still fine but I have bought Prodigy HD2 to avoid switching sound devices and its features as well as analog stereo sound quality meets my expectations but unfortunately it does not work as suppoused to.
Hardware I am using is: Asus M2NPV-VM mainboard, Athlon 5000+, 1GB Kingston RAM (2x512 dual channel at 533MHz), 512MB GeForce 8500 GT working with nVidia drivers ver. 6.14.11.7824, Samsung 1TB SATA HDD. OS is WinXP Professional SP2. I am using latest Audiotrak driver 0.978.
Do you have any suggestions? |
