Trying to re-install drivers for Prodigy 7.1
written by andyadler (User) | 12/07/2009 | 03:57 Hits: 705
Hello all. I'm running an older Athlon64-based machine which has had a Prodigy 7.1 card in it for years. Not long ago I did a clean install of 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, went to Audiotrak's Download area, grabbed the beta Vista64 drivers and installed them successfully.

Today I had to do another clean install of Win 7, and now I can't get the driver to run at all, or to have the Prodigy recognized. I have the small "speaker" icon with the red "X" ("No Audio Device is Installed), and after downloading and unzipping the driver package, I click on the Win64 folder and then the application file, which then just sits there. I've made sure the motherboard's (Asus A8V) on-board audio is disabled, switched PCI slots, all to no avail.

Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? I should be using the combined panel/driver package for Vista64, correct? I tried those Korean drivers, but they didn't work, either. What I can't understand is that I installed the drivers successfully in my initial Windows 7 go-round (and the card worked fine), but now I'm stumped.

Thanks so much in advance...A.

Hi,

I've got Athlon x64bit system sitting on Asus A8R-MVP onboard sound card disabled, I've got also up and running Creative SB X-Fi Fatal1ty same time with Prodigy HiFi no conflicts between them.
I don't have clean install of Vista nor Win7(i've got RC) but what I did for both is

run device manager, mark "sound video game & controllers" from bar choose Action --> "add legacy hardware" -> "install the hardware that I manually select from a list (advanced)" --> from list choose "sound video game & controllers" --> "have disk" --> point to unpacked driver 1.08 on your hard disk, you you may only choose Pd71HiFi.inf in root of unpacked driver package then select "Prodigy 7.1 HiFi Audio" and finish then repeat with "Prodigy 7.1 HiFi Controller"
Reboot and it's done.

Works flawless,
