Here are some suggestions to try when fighting the sound distortion problems (or pops/crackles).
Motherboards with an ALi 800N chipset: 1) Make the following BIOS adjustments: - Set “CPU snoop count” to “Low” - go to “Main => IDE Devices => Primary IDE Master” in the CMOS setup. Press Enter and set “32 Bit Transfer Mode” to OFF. 2) Update the BIOS.
Motherboards with nForce2 chipsets: The sound gets distorted while typing on the keyboard. This occurs only when using a PS/2 keyboard. 1) If using an ASUS board, put the “Typematic Rate” up one step in CMOS Advanced Settings. 2) If using an Abit board which has this option, set “FSB Spread Spectrum” to “Disabled”
Make sure to have the latest chipset drivers installed. The problem doesn’t occur with an USB keyboard.
ASUS P4P800: When using an ASUSP4P800(C) series motherboard with Hyper Threading enabled, the problem might be caused by HDTV, Gigabit Ethernet or 3COM 905B LAN cards. This problem has been confirmed only to affect the P4P800 series.
You need to make the following BIOS adjustments: 1) Disable “32Bit Data Transfer Mode” for the HDD. 2) Disable “Spread Spectrum” in the Chipset menu. 3) Set the “PCI Latency Timer” to “32” in the PCI/PnP menu.
If that doesn’t solve the problem, disable the mentioned devices or Hyper Threading. ASRock K7S8X/SiS chipset based boards: When using a SiS chipset based motherboard, you need to install the SiS IDE drivers. It has been reported that the problem occurs frequently with old BIOS versions, so it is recommended to update to the latest version.
The problems might be also caused by: -excessive overclocking -not installing the chipset drivers and Windows Service Packs - virus/spyware infection - the hard drives and optical disc drives not being connected correctly.
If any of the above will work on a board not listed here, please post the model.
Also, do not forget to deal with the basic things first, like the ones mentioned in this FAQ: http://www.audiotrack.co.kr/spboard/board.cgi?id=FAQ&action=view&gul=39&page=1&go_cnt=0 |

I've got an nForce2 motherboard (MSI K7N2 Delta-L) and a USB keyboard - I also haven't overclocked, I've got xp + sp2 installed, no spyware or vira afaik.
The weird thing is the sound is fine ... for a while - then the pops and cracks start coming slowly, then more frequently, and finally it's unbearable. If I then stop all audio for like 15 minutes, things will be fine again. This leads me to believe that there is a problem with the card itself - maybe something on it overheats? But then again, if it was a hardware problem, then why is there a major difference between using 1006 and 1005 drivers... hmm.

This is my rig: -Asrock K7VT6 with via kt600 (not using of the integrated sata raid) -1 ide Maxtor Hd 120GB on primary as master -1 Toshiba 1710 DVD-Rom + 1Teac 512EB cd writer as master and slave on secondary. -Ati 9800pro AIW -Wireless pci nic -Prodigy 7.1 windows xp pro sp2 I've switched differet pci slots, removing all cards with no effect. I've read and applied your suggestions in FAQ I've played a little with bios settings with no results. The card sounds good at the boot, then after playing some files or even during playing some games crackles comes out or, even worst, the sound just mute. Looks like playing some video files with AC3 or DTS soundtrack directly from HD makes the problem comes out quicker tha just playing audio files. Some earlier drivers seems less sensible (1993) or at least they keep going for a longer period. Switching the latency settings from the prodigy control panel recovers the situation for a while, then the distortion comes out again. Thanks for any help.

Ok darcworx, there is a radical solution to our issues, till better drivers comes out. I've flashed my Prodigy with a Terratec aureon space firmware, installed latest drivers and that's it, no more problems. I know, it's a risky workaround, and more u'll get not so many features as Prodigy drivers, then the control panel interface is not as good as prodigy's but hey!, it works with no distorted sound (tested with files, asio, games etc). Hope for next prodigy driver release to solve this issue. |

If there is no more distorted sound after flashing with Aureon firmware and drivers, then obviously its either the firmware of the drivers fault.
Hopefully Audiotrak drivers team will release a fix on this issue soon. |

When posting information about this problem, please post COMPLETE system specs. This inlcudes the motherboard model, hard drive models, optical disc drive models and their connections (primary/secondary master/slave), etc. This is critical for us to reproduce the problem. It's not an issue that can be reproduced on each and every system.
Try to see if the issue occurs more often in specific situations, such as hard drive access, network access, typing on the keyboard, etc.
When troubleshooting, try removing or disabling any hardware which is not required for system operation, to see if any particular component combination is causing the problem.
This problem affects other sound cards as well. It may occur more often on the Prodigy because the card has a lower latency than the others. |

I've got a Media Center 2005 PC and having the same issues. I have ran through every one of the FAQ settings and all suggestions that I have seen in the Forums.
I've got multiple machines that I've tried this on. Both machines have had Windows Media Center 2005 installed on them as well as tried Windows XP Pro (which didn't give me the crackling/popping as freqently).
Here are the system specs (hopefully I've provided you with enough information - if more is needed let me know. I've got an extensive amount of hardware that I can test on. I've got two Prodigy 7.1 LT cards and both are showing the same symptoms.)
Machine 1: - Intel Pentium 4 3.06 (with or without HT enabled) - Intel D845PEBT2 - Kingston ValueRam 512MB DDR333 - eVGA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra (5200, 5700LE and ATI x800 XT, also tried Leadtek 5700LE [A360] and 5200 [A340]) - Lite-On LTR-52246S CDRW - Western Digital WDC WD600JB (60GB) - AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1LT - (1.005 and 1.006 drivers) - Hauppauge PVR-150MCE (PVR-250, PVR-500-MCE, PVR-USB2, NVTV, Avermedia M150)
Machine 2: (did not reuse Processor or RAM from above machine) - Intel Pentium 4 3.06 (with or without HT enabled) - Intel 865PERL - Kingston ValueRam 512MB DDR333 - eVGA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra (5200, 5700LE and ATI x800 XT, also tried Leadtek 5700LE [A360] and 5200 [A340]) - Philips DVDR1640P - Seagate ST3120026A (120GB) - AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1LT - (1.005 and 1.006 drivers) - Hauppauge PVR-150MCE (PVR-250, PVR-500-MCE, PVR-USB2, NVTV, Avermedia M150)
Any help in getting this fixed |

Did you try removing the Hauppauge cards and disabling non-critical devices, like the networking controllers? (Just for the test.)
Does switching between QSound/Prodigy make any difference? |

Yes I tried removing all non-critical devices and followed all the steps mentioned in the FAQ and other posts. Switching between QSound/Prodigy didn't make much of a difference. It still happens.
I've also tried these systems with just the motherboard, video card, sound card, CD drive, and a hard disk. Disabled onboard Audio, clean installation of Windows XP (or MCE2005), the drivers for Prodigy card and video card. |

The Intel 865PERL board is being investigated.
Did you disconnect the optical drive when testing the other board? You have tried a different PCI slot, right? If both answers are true, I'd like to ask for your MSN ID for some live assistance. You can e-mail it if you don't want to post it in the public. |

I have also the distortion problem after 10 minutes... I really think this is a driver problem, because other soundcards that I'd used (soundblaster live, echo darla)had no problems at all. I hope there will be an update soon otherwise I will return this Prodigy 7.1 Lite to the shop back... |
